Heavenly Ski Resort
Overlooking South Lake Tahoe on the border between California and Nevada, Heavenly certainly lives up to its name. Thrilling trails, tranquil views, and the lively buzz of a casino ski resort combine to make this destination one of the most unique spots for skiing in the USA.
As well as offering the striking vista of the Nevada desert in one direction and the glistening Lake Tahoe in the other, Heavenly provides good terrain for all standards. Beginners will love the greens around Sky Deck, experts should head to the super steep Canyons, and intermediates can play all over, dropping off the top ridge onto the blues, and carving all the way down the Nevada side of the mountain. When the snow falls in Heavenly, devotees head straight for the forest. Heavenly’s well-spaced tree line is beloved by advanced skiers, especially when there’s a fresh layer of powder on the ground
Those who ski in Heavenly stay in South Lake Tahoe, at the bottom of Heavenly gondola. Strange as it sounds, this is a casino town and with it comes a deliciously varied choice of food; from tacos and grills to fresh fish and Indian curry. After sunset, when the lights of this tinsel town glow bright, top entertainers rule the casinos, live music drifts down the streets and the paddle steamers fill up with dancers as they chug across the lake. It’s not your average ski resort, but it’s certainly unique.
