From introducing entirely new ski resorts to new eateries, we want to keep you in the know of the developments for the new ski season. Take a look at our latest ski news from across the globe to get you excited for the upcoming winter season.
Introducing Voss
Ski Solutions is pleased to announce the new partnership with Voss ski resort. With many successful Norwegian ski holidays carried out in 2022, we believe Voss will continue the interest in Scandinavian skiing amongst our clients. Voss is accessible from Bergen Airport in just 90-minutes and that’s by train and car!
Voss is located in Western Norway and is one of the largest ski resorts in the area, with a varied number of slopes for all levels. There are over 45km of pistes and 11 ski lifts, including one brand-new gondola, which grants direct access from the town centre. Voss is a great ski resort for beginners. There are three dedicated beginner ski areas for learners to practice their turns at their own pace. The main nursery slope is directly behind the main lift station, with a covered magic carpet that is a great addition.
The Ski Solutions team was fortunate enough to visit Voss for an end-of-season trip. It was a great opportunity to explore the region and enjoy a wonderful Scandinavian welcome. The team got to experience the local food, scenery, and of course the skiing! Not to mention, rounding off the trip with a truly magical fjord tour.
Full Steam Ahead in Steamboat
Across the pond, there are a number of changes in the works in Steamboat, Colorado. The ski resort is investing substantially in making the in-resort experience better for all. New lifts and new ski terrain have been built to make the ski resort the second largest in Colorado.
The new ‘Top-to-Bottom’ gondola will be the longest and fastest 10-person gondola in North America. The state-of-the-art gondola will service a mid-station to Bashor Bowl and a final destination at the top of Sunshine Peak. The journey takes 13 minutes and covers a mammoth 3.16 miles.
The beginner area has had a vast improvement. The Greenhorn Ranch is now a dedicated learner area, with a 0% to 15% angled slope and varied terrain to build confidence. A chairlift will be serving the area and the terrain will be maintained with snow cannons to the highest standard.
There is something for the advanced skiers too. Steamboat has built a brand-new chairlift creating an impressive 650 acres of expert terrain. Making Steamboat the second-largest ski resort in Colorado (previously fifth-largest!).
Off the ski hill, there are huge improvements to the lively ski town. Steamboat Square will transform with completed plans for an après ski plaza, new restaurants and bars, retail outlets, an ice rink, fire pits, and a stage for live music.
Eat Well in Whistler
Whistler introduces new culinary delights in the ski region. Visit Mekong, a new fine Thai restaurant bringing authentic South East Asian dishes to Whistler. Head Chef, Angus An, of award-winning Thai restaurant ‘Maenam’, assures the restaurant honours Thai culinary tradition with modern imagination. ‘Thai like you’ve never tasted it’.
The contemporary Spanish restaurant Bar Oso returns to Whistler with a larger and reimagined space, serving traditional tapas, charcuterie, and artisan cocktails.
For those looking for a fine-dining experience, Wild Blue Restaurant and Bar will be serving elevated Pacific Northwest cuisine. Using locally sourced ingredients, sustainable seafood, and an extensive wine selection.
A daytime cafe opens just a few minutes from Creekside Gondola. Rockit Coffee brings a funky vibe to Whistler, serving hot and cold drinks, filling sandwiches, and pastries. Be sure to stop by on your way up the slope.
New Lifts in the Three Valleys
The Three Valleys have introduced two new gondolas connecting Orelle to Val Thorens this winter. The gondolas are already in service as of this summer, with one connecting Orelle to Plan Bouchet and the other from Plan Bouchet to Cime Caron at 3,200m. Orelle to Cime lift capacity has doubled and lifts within this area are some of the fastest in France. Visitors of the Three Valleys can travel from Orelle to Val Thorens in 45 minutes and from Orelle village to Cime Caron in just 20 minutes, covering a fantastic amount of ski terrain.
The introduction of these gondolas from this region will reduce wait times significantly, especially during the peak weeks of Christmas, New Year, Half Term, and Easter.
