Kitzbühel Ski Resort
Kitzbühel ski resort lies in the heart of Austria’s Tyrol region with excellent skiing on offer. Once a silver mining town, Kitzbühel is full of character and is often regarded as one of the most beautiful ski towns in Europe. The town is largely car-free, with cobbled streets winding past brightly-coloured buildings and designer shops. The impressive Gothic St Catherine’s church stands tall over the town, serving as a reminder of Kitzbühel’s medieval roots. Quite simply nowhere else on the planet can match it for a sense of history and tradition.
Most of the centre is now more-or-less car-free. The main streets are lined with hotels, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. The old town can be especially enchanting at night, when it assumes a real fairy-tale image.
Among ski racing fans Kitzbühel ski resort is world famous as the home of the classic Hahnenkamm Downhill course. With 179km of varied, groomed pistes, Kitzbühel ski resort is one of the largest in Austria and has invested in a modern, high-speed lift system. While the Hahnenkamm’s Streif run might not be for the faint-hearted, Kitzbühel’s skiing is otherwise a brilliant choice for intermediate skiers. There’s a huge variety of blues and reds to discover and intermediates will find most of the slopes here accessible. More advanced skiers might like to head off-piste with a guide to discover some of the 200 square kilometres of terrain that’s hidden away.
