Alpbach

Part of the Ski Juwel ski area, Alpbach is a delightfully quiet ski resort in Austria. If you’re looking for a relaxed experience in the mountains, this ski resort is for you. There are stunning mountain views on and off the slopes and the locals are very welcoming. You can ski 109km of slopes in the area with great links to nearby Niederau-Oberau. The terrain is mostly suited to intermediate and beginners. In addition, the ski resort has fantastic ski schools and childcare facilities which are fantastic for families.

You can stay in brilliant hotels and guest-housed based accommodation, which are run by local families in the town. On the slopes, we recommend eating at the Boglalm restaurant that’s located below the Poglalm mid-station. The restaurant serves delicious dumpling soup and Tiroler Grosti. If you’re looking for a relaxed drink in town, the Hotel Post is a great spot.

Quiet Ski Resorts Austria

Filzmoos

Hidden in a tiny corner of the Salzburger Sportwelt, Filzmoos is a wonderful ski destination. Admire the unique mountain range view in the village and on the slopes. There is 13km of slopes with 8 lifts connecting the pistes. This ski resort is perfect for beginners and intermediates with its gentle terrain. Advanced skiers will enjoy the one black slope in the area, the Michaela Kirchgasser FIS racecourse. Due to its unique location, it also has a reliable snow record.

In town, there are cute alpine huts that have kept the traditional mountain town charm. If you’re looking for a place to eat or drink there are great bars and restaurants to enjoy. We recommend eating at the Happy Alm and Alm Stadl. There is also a leisure centre in the town with both indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and bowling. Great for family and group holidays.

Quiet Ski Resorts Austria

Katschberg

Katschberg is one of the best quiet ski resorts in Austria for family skiing. In the area, there is 70km of pistes that are perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. There are fantastic child-friendly activities, ski schools and childcare in the area. You can book a great selection of ski-in ski-out accommodation making it very easy to access the slopes.

You can admire the beautiful wide mountain ranges and pine forests of the area whether you’re in the village or on the slopes. The off-slope activities are low-key but there are great bars and restaurants to visit. The Adlerhorst located at 2,222m on the pistes, has lovely views and tasty food. The Wilderer Alm serves homemade schnapps and a great selection of wine if you’re looking for a relaxed place to drink.

Katschberg a quiet ski resort in Austria

Kühtai

Kühtai is one of the highest altitude ski resorts in Austria. Located in between the Ötztal and the Stubai mountain ranges. Its unique location means there’s a great snowfall record and low temperatures throughout the ski season. You can ski 46km of pistes in the area which are most suited to intermediates. In addition, there’s brilliant off-piste terrain to enjoy too.

The town’s location is very close to the slopes, maximising your time on the slopes. In the village, there are plenty of hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars. If you want the best pizza in town, head to Pizzeria Da Bruno. There are also great bars to enjoy too, we recommend visiting Siglu, Dorfstadl, Eisbar and Alte Stube.

Kuhtai

Niederau-Oberau

Another quiet ski resort in Austria that’s part of the Ski Juwel ski area is Niederau-Oberau. Connected to nearby Alpbach, there is 109km of slopes that are most suited to beginner and intermediate skiers. If you book a local mountain guide, you can ski some excellent off-piste terrain too. All types of skiers will enjoy this ski area.

You can choose from over 20 restaurants in the ski area. The best place to eat in town is Der Wastlhof, with local cuisine and other international dishes on the menu. If you’re looking for a relaxed drink, O’Malley’s and Café Treff are the best spots in town. The stunning scenery in the area is wonderful to look at and there are plenty of winter walks to enjoy.

Niederau-Oberau

Obertauern

Obertauern is a little-known ski resort located in the Salzburg region. The 100km of slopes are suited to beginner and intermediate skiers. Whether you’re on the hotel balcony or the slopes there are stunning mountain views to admire in the area. If there’s a powder day, book a local mountain guide as there is fantastic off-piste terrain to explore.

As for the village itself, it’s a typical traditional Austrian mountain town. You can book some excellent ski-in ski-out accommodation options, which are perfect for getting the most out of your time on the slopes. We recommend eating at the Königsalm in the Latschenhof, which serves excellent local cuisine in a rustic setting.

Obertauern

Seefeld

A fantastic quiet ski resort in Austria is Seefeld. Known as one of the best cross-country skiing destinations in the world it has 250km of tracks in the area. The alpine skiing in the ski resort is very relaxed with 27km of uncrowded slopes to enjoy. The slopes are mainly suited to intermediates with some great nursery slopes for beginners too. There are picturesque views on and off the slopes to enjoy.

The town centre of Seefeld is traffic-free is easy to get around. There’s a mixture of rustic mountain architecture and modern facilities. If you’re a foodie you’re in for a treat there are 50 different restaurants to enjoy with a range of cuisine. The best spots in town are Südtiroler Stuben, Emilia Romagna, Alt Seefeld and Milchhof. The bars are more sophisticated than lively. Fledermaus, Jeep and Le Dome are the favourite bars.
